Legacy

This past year Bernie and I have both lost our dads, David Kosnikowski and George Dilisio, within 6 months of each other. As I have walked through days of heartbreak along with the amazing celebration of life for each of these phenomenal human beings - We have heard countless stories of how our dads have had a positive impact on so many, as well as, their incredible work ethic. As our hearts continue to heal from our loss, it has left me wondering about legacy and a life well lived.

During the visitations and gatherings of family and friends, I heard over and over statements like: “They don’t make them like they used to!” or, “He was just not an employee- HE was the company.”   “He was always there for me.” or “He pushed me to be better”.  “He was the most respected person in the company.”, and “They broke the mold when they made him!”

We will all have a legacy or impact on the world and people around us. I feel at times we get so busy being busy that we lose touch with the focus on the positive effects that we have on our family, community, and friends. The extra effort that we can give or a little more time that we can share with others along with the gift of time and presence. Or even doing our jobs well because of the pure satisfaction of it.

These are some answers that I am contemplating and considering -

What does legacy come down to?  Is it a commitment to others? Is it self-leadership to work hard and give back? A desire to achieve? Where does that come from? How can it be replicated?  How can I enhance my positive impact?

What do you think?  What do you want your legacy to be?
